Dachau Walking into a Nightmare

Dachau
Walking into a Nightmare

Somewhere in mid April when the 103rd was motoring south to Innsbruck, the 411 took a left to liberate the city of Landsberg, Germany. This town had significant history.

The Landsberg prison was where Adolph Hitler and Rudolph Hess were prisoners here after the Beer Hall Putsch.
It was also here that Hitler wrote "Mein Kampf"

The 103rd men entered this prison and when they came to
cell number 7 . There was a plaque above the door that said
"Here a dishonorable system imprisoned Germany's greatest son from November 1923 to December 20 1924."

As the Cactus men scoured the area for displaced people and German soldiers they found what they had been fighting against. Around this historic city they were 6 concentration camps scattered with starved dead people and other zombie like humans walking around in a daze.

Frank and the 410 at one point came into the city of Dachau and found a similar mess.

While this wasn't recorded in the diary Frank spoke about it and took pictures.

Frank thought this was the barracks

The barracks sign denoted a weapon storage for the SS

This was especially eerie to Frank the
entrance to the ovens.
